WaterWipes

($7.99 for a pack of 60)

What it is:

Baby wipes with only two ingredients: Water (99.9%) and grapefruit seed extract (0.1%).

Use it:

To wipe your baby’s bottom, face, and any other sensitive skin areas — a suitable alternative to cotton wool and water.

What we love:

WaterWipes are a fresh, natural product with nothing nasty at all in them. Chemical-free, they’re the gentlest baby wipes around. While other baby wipes can contain a whole raft of chemicals — even the “sensitive skin” versions have a number of unpronounceable ingredients — WaterWipes have only two: Water and grapefruit seed extract, which is a natural skin conditioner. They don’t irritate the skin, and may even help to avoid nappy rash and other skin conditions. They’re also the only baby wipe ever to be approved by Allergy UK, and in a 2014 study of midwives, 97% said they believe WaterWipes are suitable to be used on the skin of newborn babies.

Our editor says:

Every mum has baby wipes in her handbag, the nappy bag, the centre console in the car, and pretty much in every room of the house. They’ve been a fixture on my shopping list since my oldest child was born 11 years ago, and they’ve cleaned up little people (and not-so-little people) more times than I can count. Invented by a dad of a daughter with sensitive skin and nappy rash, WaterWipes are “as pure and gentle as cotton wool and water.” What I love the most about WaterWipes is that they are so incredibly simple: Just water and a teeny bit of grapefruit seed extract. That’s it. They’re so gentle on newborn skin, which is fragile and sensitive, and needs to be treated as such. And if your baby ever gets nappy rash, these are the only wipes I’ve used which don’t make them cry: Because they’re so pure, they won’t sting when you’re wiping a sore bottom. Perfect for taking to hospital in your labour bag (you want to be prepared for that meconium poo!). I also use them to clean sticky fingers and faces! They’re super-convenient, and an easy alternative to carrying a wet face cloth around.

Things to remember:

Because they’re free from chemicals and preservatives, they should be used within four weeks of opening the packet, and as with all fresh products, you need to keep the top closed and store in a cool, dry place.
