Terra Baby Wipes

What it is:

100% biodegradable bamboo fibre baby wipes, free from harmful chemicals.

Use it:

There are three different versions – Water Wipes, which are recommended for everyday use; Manuka Honey Wipes, which are recommended for nappy rash; and Goat Milk Wipes, which are recommended for sensitive skin.

What we love:

These plant-based wipes are biodegradable and can be composted at home, and degrade within 28 days. They contain 99.7% purified New Zealand water, as well as natural and organic extracts like chamomile, aloe vera, and Manuka honey. They’re designed to be gentle on the planet as well as your baby’s delicate skin.

Our mum tester says:

Baby wipes are one of those products you always have on hand, even as your babies grow up! These bamboo wipes are soft to touch and because bamboo has natural anti-microbial properties, there’s no need for added chemicals like fragrance or antibacterial agents. They’re just the right “dampness”, neither too wet nor too dry – one of my pet peeves is wipes that are too dry! – and the New Zealand water they’re made with has been purified to remove bacteria, organisms, heavy metals, and unnecessary minerals. With three versions – Water Wipes, Manuka Honey, and Goat Milk – there’s a wipe for every baby, and each contains different ingredients with specific purposes in mind. The Water Wipes are best for everyday use. Manuka Honey Wipes are recommended for nappy rash, as the antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, antiviral, and antioxidant properties of Manuka honey make it a soothing choice for sore skin. Goat Milk Wipes are recommended for sensitive skin, as goat’s milk is high in Vitamin A, which can help repair damaged skin and provide relief for skin conditions like eczema. (The goat’s milk used in the wipes is organically sourced, too – how neat is that?) I used the Water Wipes the most as they’re a great “suits every occasion” wipe, and they did a great job in some pretty (ahem) stinky situations. We’re very intrigued by the Terra Wipes Subscription Service, where you can receive eight packs of wipes for $64 a month (12-month subscription) or $68 a month (three-month subscription) – there’s even the option to give this as a gift, so if you’re looking for a useful baby gift to give or request, check out the options at terra.co.nz.

Things to remember:

The wipes packets are sealed with a clear sticker over the opening rather than a plastic lid, and we found the opening and the sticker to be a mite too small. If you have a reusable wipes container, we recommend using that – you can easily pop these out of the packet and into the wipes container, then recycle the packet in your soft plastic packaging; the plastic sticker, which is made from HDPE, is also recyclable. Also, remember that these wipes are not flushable. In fact, you should never flush any wipes, as they can cause major problems in our sewerage systems.
