A high chair is a must-have on every new parent’s list of baby gear, and the POD Timber High Chair is an item that will last beyond the baby years because of its three-in-one versatility: Use it as a standalone high chair with the detachable tray, remove the tray and use it at the table, or shorten the legs and use as a toddler chair. The soft grey seat blends effortlessly with any decor, and the three-position tray adjusts as your baby grows. I assembled this right out of the box and found it easy to put together, although the legs did give me a little bit of angst because I was too excited to realise that only two of them have holes for the foot rest to screw into, and I accidentally put them on the back rather than the front! It’s reasonably lightweight, so easy to move around, yet sturdy on its four legs so it won’t tip over if you’ve got an active baby. My favourite feature is the tray, which has a removable insert so that if you’re lucky, your baby will contain their mess to the insert and you’ll only have to wash that rather than taking the whole thing off. It’s a very Scandi-styled piece of furniture that looks great too.
Things to remember:
- Never leave a child unattended in a high chair — if you need to leave the room, take your child with you to avoid falls that can result when a child tries to stand up or climb out of the chair when adults are not there.
- Use the harness from the very beginning and every time to ensure your baby gets used to being secured.
- Do not allow a child to stand up in a high chair or climb into or out of it unassisted, as the chair may become unstable.
- Set the high chair up at least 500mm away from windows, unsecured doorways, stoves, appliance cords, curtains, or blind cords to prevent children coming into contact with hazards.
- Make sure a child cannot push against a vertical surface (such as a wall or cupboards) and push the chair over.
- Ensure the child’s hands are free from moving parts when the tray is raised and lowered to avoid pinching or entrapment.
