The tree is up, the stockings are hung, the presents are wrapped… And for many mums-to-be, a gorgeous baby bump is rivalling Santa’s “bowl full of jelly” belly! Christmas is right around the corner, and if you’re pregnant, this may be your last big holiday before baby arrives.
It’s a bittersweet time – saying goodbye to life as a couple or small family but welcoming a new addition to fill your lives with more joy than leftover trifle on Boxing Day. And if you’re a new mum, your baby’s first Christmas is an exciting and special milestone to celebrate, although you might be as sleep-deprived as Santa must be, trying to make it to all the houses in the world in only 24 hours.
I particularly love seeing photos of newborns in those “My First Christmas” bodysuits, or tiny babies held in Santa’s arms for the first time. One of the sweetest photos I saw was of a baby who had fallen asleep in the queue to see Santa, so when the parents got up to the front of the line with their snoozing bundle, Santa played along… And the resulting image is of Santa sleeping with the slumbering baby on his tummy. Oh, how it melted my heart!
Those pics of newborns in Christmas stockings or wearing oversized Santa hats are also adorable. In fact, I’ll take anything with a newborn and a Christmas ornament or decoration. Christmas is my favourite holiday, and newborns are snuggly-sweet, so combining the two is like telling me I can eat dessert for every meal and not get sick.
Have a wonderful holiday season with your family and friends, bump or new baby, and enjoy this special time together!
